Handbook (2021)
The Handbook is an exploration of the relationship between process and presence versus the absence of control.
This project was led by the question: “What if I were to make a photobook, but I would give up the control over content and visual style of every step of the process to someone else?”
I have created a system where photos submitted by photographers are assigned to poets and writers. Whereas the photographers had to work with a hand as the object, the writers were not allowed to use the word "hand".
At the same time, my friend and designer, Ana Karlin, created a system for book design, knowing only the allowed photo sizes and poem/writing parameters.
In the end, all of the elements - design layout, photos and texts came together as an experimental meditation of a "hands on/hands off" approach.
